Leak detection on Zealand
The earth drinks the water - and the meter is the only witness
A supply line between two villages in Zealand can run for kilometers through fields and boundaries without a single visible sign that something is wrong. If the line leaks along the way, the water disappears into the ground, while the numbers on the flow meter slowly grow apart.
DWI A / S finds these types of leaks. We perform leak detection on Zealand for the entire water industry and for properties with their own installations – from acute location of breaks to multi-year agreements for reviewing entire pipe networks.
Leak detection on Zealand – based in the middle of it all
DWI is located at DTU Science Park in Hørsholm, so the path to a Zealand assignment is short. In the case of acute breaches, we can often respond the same day – call the emergency number +45 70 23 98 98, then a leak operator is on the way.
Planned tasks are agreed to fit into your operations. Many customers choose a fixed agreement where the network is reviewed area by area over several years, and where water loss is monitored from measurement to measurement - documentation that can be presented directly to the board or municipality.
Systematic leak detection on Zealand
Leak detection is the detective work before the excavation: the planned review of the network that reveals water losses that no one has yet seen. On Zealand, this often means long distances between the measurement points – and here the operator's experience becomes crucial, because the fewer places you can listen, the more you need to be able to read from each individual signal.
On the other hand, we work without the constant background noise of the big city when the task is outside the city centers. The silence makes the faint leak sounds easier to pick up – but only if you know what you're listening for.
The methods behind precise localization
Every task starts with a choice of method, and we make this decision together with you before the fieldwork begins. The rough location is usually done with acoustic listening equipment, after which correlation narrows down the position: the signal is measured at two points on the line, and the location of the leak is calculated based on the time difference. Correlation is a powerful tool, especially on long, straight stretches.
Some leaks do not produce any actionable sound. A harmless tracer gas is then injected into the pipe and the surface is scanned for leakage – a method that pinpoints even silent leaks with an accuracy of a few centimeters.
If you don't know the exact route of the pipes, we can handle that too. Wire search of piping and branch lines is a natural part of the task when the map material is not enough.
Who we solve tasks for in Zealand
Zealand is home to both large utility companies and a large number of smaller waterworks, where operations are carried out by a few hands. We tailor the solution to what your organization can actually handle – some need a single location, others need a partner for several years.
The tasks take us all over the island, including Roskilde, Næstved, Køge and Helsingør. We also help housing associations and companies with their own installations when water consumption increases without anyone knowing why.
Water loss is an item on the operating statement
Water that is pumped out but never invoiced – NRW, Non Revenue Water – is not a technical detail. It is money that flows out of the accounts year after year. Precise leak detection on Zealand turns that picture around: the excavation work is limited to one point, and the investment is usually quickly repaid in saved water loss.

Monitoring between reviews
A review shows the current state of the network – but new leaks are constantly occurring. With data loggers in the network and the HydrantAI platform as a hub, the noise picture is monitored around the clock, and the system automatically alerts when something deviates from normal. In this way, an incipient leak is detected long before it becomes an acute rupture.

Equipment and courses – both available on Zealand
Do you prefer to be responsible for leak detection in your own network?, sells and leases DWI professional measuring equipment and maintains it afterwards. As an authorized distributor of Gutermann, among others, we advise on which instrument package matches your wiring network.
DWI Leak Academy also holds basic course in wiring and leak detection at DTU Science Park in Hørsholm – theory combined with practical exercises on the test track, right nearby no matter where in Zealand you come from.
Yes. Based in Hørsholm, we solve tasks all over the island – from North Zealand to South Zealand.
It depends on the size of the network and the nature of the leak. A single location can often be completed in one day, while a zone review is planned over a longer period of time.
Then we use tracer gas. The method works independently of sound and also finds leaks at low pressure.
Yes – a large part of our Zealand customers are smaller water utilities, and the solution is always adapted to the size of the organization.
Yes. The basic course at DWI Leak Academy in Hørsholm gives technicians and operators a solid foundation in pipe and leak detection.
